Ellen Koot

Ellen Koot (Rotterdam, 1958) was a student of the School for Music and Dance of her place of birth, where she mainly studied the flute. After that she found out she was still more fascinated by technics than by music, and got her degree as an instrument maker in 1980. But then, a few years later, music started itching again and she started studying the bassoon. This with Hein van Dijk and, later, Peter Gaasterland at the conservatory of Zwolle, where ze got her degree as a teaching musician in 1993. At the conservatory of Rotterdam she continued her studies with Henk de Wit, leaving it in 1996 as an officially breveted performing musician. As a bassoon player Ellen is member of all kinds of chamber music ensembles, and she also works as a freelance musician for different symphony orchestras.
Besides that Ellen teaches bassoon at the music school of Nieuwegein (Utrecht). In 1999 La Principal d'Amsterdam asked her to play the flabiol and the accompanying tamborí. She got flabiol advice from a.o. Jordi León and Marcel Sabaté (both teachers at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya in Barcelona).
